Thank you so much for sharing this. I can't wait to watch the documentary later tonight. Also loved the stories about Bonnie Raitt. I saw her join you on slide guitar for "Why Do I Lie" and remember thinking how great it was that she was on stage with you.

I absolutely love these memories. I am a massive Sheryl Crow fan and it is amazing to think of you all hanging out together. (And, awww, Scout was such a good doggie!) Wish I’d been there to see the harmonica incident!

These Substack posts are fantastic! Thank you for sharing these memories!

I'd be interested in hearing more about your experiences at another festival that unfortunately turned out to be not-so-nice: the "Summer Ends" festival in Tempe, AZ in 2014. I was so excited that 3 of my all-time favorite bands (you, the Descendents, and the Replacements) were all on the same bill. If I remember correctly, there weren't many dates on your tour (your first in many years), and you were playing in Arizona, of all places, where I lived at the time. Then the huge storm hit, not long before your set, and the show got cancelled. Many of the bands played a local club that night, but I think you passed, presumably because your equipment was onstage during the worst of the storm and got wrecked. Sorry if this brings back bad memories.

yes! that was scary. We were in a dressing room in an RV and we all got warnings to evacuate especially if you’re in an RV. We were bummed not to play the show

So good! Love that you thought it would be lame Gabby- that's exactly how I felt about all-women spaces before I actually had a chance to join a couple of them too.

Thanks so much for writing and sharing—this is RAD AF. I milled around backstage at one of the Indigo Girls' headlining shows, and it seemed like such a good time. If I got to play with Bonnie Raitt and Chrissie Hynde asked me to sing backup for her, I might've raptured immediately thereafter. Oh, and better living via Nag Champa every time!

Every word, every reflection has brought joy to me. What an amazing, collaborative, nurturing tour Lilith Fair brought to music fans and artists. Cannot wait to watch the documentary.

Loved this! Thanks so much for the effort and for SHARING, as always.

I distinctly remember being a mid-‘90s teen boy not really understanding the significance of Lilith, and kinda letting the idea of it being an all-women show make me feel weird about getting into it (despite loving most of the artists). Kinda echoes Gabby’s initial thoughts: the idea seemed gimmicky ‘til I eventually saw enough performances on TV to realize that this MATTERED and that we were so lucky to see this moment in time, even on TV. What a collection of musicians.

Emmylou is a big deal where I’m from (same hometown: Birmingham, AL!), so I’m glad y’all had so many chances to perform with her. Who were some of your other favorite collaborators over the years, people who maybe had some valuable lessons and memories?

A very welcome respite from the ennui that is Cleveland Browns football. I never had the opportunity to attend a Lilith Fest, and it seems there’s precious little written about it. The pictures and clips are delightful, and once again, thank you for sharing this.
